Nail Polish from The Hungry Asian March 21, 2012

I saw on Chalkboard Nails a nail polish called Sneeze Breeze from The Hungry Asian. I fell in love! I went straight over to her Etsy store and then saw another amazing color, Sea Creature so I had to get both. She must have put them in the mail about 5 seconds after my payment hit because my package arrived a tidy 2 days later.  And how cute  is the package and the little pictures on the bottles?

Because I am taking part in the ASK Nail Challenge I couldn’t wear these on my nails but after the break are some photos on my practice wheel – and I did wear Sea Creature on my feet and it lasted over 2 weeks without chipping!

MyGlam January (Bag #2) Impressions and value January 23, 2012

I just got the second MyGlam bag; the January bag called “back to nature”.  It took forever due to the storm we had in WA. Anyway I was excited to finally get the bag.  What came in it?

  • Freeman Feeling Beautiful Cucumber Peel Off Mask
  • Sheer Cover Concealer in Light/Medium
  • The Balm Hot Ticket nail polish in “Sky Blue Right Past You”
  • Wen Conditioning Cleanser in Sweet Almond Mint
  • Coupons for each of the products
  • A cute makeup bag for travel

I haven’t tried the peel off mask yet, but I will probably devote an entire post to it. They sent a full size which is 6 oz and retails for $4.00.  It smells good and I can’t wait to try it.

Next is the Sheer Cover Concealer in Light/Medium. This is a full size item. It retails for $29.00. I will do a review on it later too, but I fear that it is too dark for me, especially the “Medium” side.

Influenster Holiday Vox Box – imPRESS Press-on Manicure by Broadway Nails – Space Cadet December 27, 2011

Influenster sent me some cute press on nails from Broadway nails.  They are imPress Press-on Manicure. They come in 3 dozen colors/styles from a simple french manicure all the way to a fancy water marbled look.  I was sent Space Cadet which looks sort of like a crackle coat with sparkly highlights.  They are cute – but not my first choice from the 36 offerings (but still better than the animal print which I just don’t do).

Lets start with the packaging, the nails are all contained in a little box that looks just like a polish bottle.  You twist off the top just like you would for a nail polish, but then you squeeze the sides to open the clear plastic part.  though the front holder shows only a few sizes there are TONS of different sizes so you are almost guaranteed to find ones to fit your hands.

The nails are fairly thick which makes them sturdy, but fairly heavy.  I’m also not used to my nails being this long so it is taking some adjusting to.

The application (once you’ve picked the appropriate sizes) is really simple, first you clean all your nails with the provided wipes then you just pull the clear plastic tab to remove the covering from the sticky back side and press them on your nail.  After the first 7 were on I started having an issue pulling the tabs off so I quickly learned that using a tweezer to remove the tabs worked wonderfully.

Earlier today I went to Starbucks. While I was there I got a couple compliments. One of the girls thought they were my real natural nails AND she loved the pattern.  I think that is a pretty cool compliment to the manufacturers.

As most of my readers know, nail polish rarely lasts me more than 24 hours.  How do these press-ons compare?  I’ve had them on now about 48 hours. They are still on and not peeling off my nail like polish does.   I did however experience chipping of the actual pattern. I’m not sure if this is normal but it did sort of ruin the whole perfect looking nail thing.

As you can see the chipping is probably on 10% of the whole pattern, which doesn’t seem like it should happen.  Owell – still this is better than the whole coat of polish peeling off.

Overall verdict?  I’d sure be open to trying them again (actually I might be able to make a full set from my leftovers too) but I’d like to see the polish last more than a day and a half.

I still challenge you to find me nails that will last me more than 2 days and still look fresh!

UPDATE: 12/29: I woke up this morning with two nails having committed suicide in my sheets.  I took the remaining 8 nails off – which was easy and straightforward.  As I’ve said previously, I am really really hard on my nails, so this surpassed my expectations.

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 12 – Frosty Christmas Lights December 23, 2011

“On the Twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Twelve Drummers Drumming” My husband already plays drums, I really don’t need more drumming in the house, but I suppose if its like “Bring in da noise, bring in da funk” it’d be ok.

Today’s nails look like the drum shattered the ice.  I painted each of my nails the color of one of the lights on my christmas decorations.  After they were each dry I coated them with some Seche Vite.  Then I added a coat of Sally Hansen’s white crackle coat.  The interesting thing here is that I used Kleencolor red holo for the red nails and it seems to have seeped through the Seche Vite and then even more it seeped into the crackle coat. It made the white look pink. None of the rest of the colors bled into the coat.  Here they are!

And now I have a very special treat for you.  I’ve been in contact with a very special organization ( which helps lonely polishes find new homes.  Their adoption process for the first group of polishes ends on New Years Eve (December 31st).  These polishes come from all different backgrounds and have a different story to tell. You can see their pictures and read their stories. If one sounds like it will be a good fit for you then you can write up an adoption application and maybe if the polish chooses your application  then it will go home to you.  See more details below the break.  I’ve put in my application, have you?

*I have received nothing in exchange for this promotion of the program – I just think it is super neat and hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 11 – Stamps (not for the mail) December 22, 2011

Before I get on with my post I want to say hi to all of you! I have gotten quite a few new followers over the last two weeks and I want to say hi. I’m so glad you are finding my posts interesting enough that you want to read more!  I’m always open to comments, so if there is something you’d like to see or a product you’d like me to review, just let me know :)

“On the Eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Eleven Pipers Piping” I like music – I wonder what type of music they are playing? Perhaps “The Twelve days of Christmas”

I’ve got some super fun nails today – though they have nothing to do with pipers piping.  I used my stamps from the Born Pretty store and there were some super cute christmas stamps!  I have Christmas trees, snowmen, candy canes, Christmas bells, and rudolph the red nosed reindeer.  Check ‘em out.

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 10 – Snow on the ground December 21, 2011

“On the Tenth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Ten Lords a-Leaping” Maybe they could dance with the the nine-ladies dancing, but one poor guy will be left out.

My nails certainly haven’t felt left out this holiday season. I’ll change it up from the traditional Christmas hues to a nice winter snowy color. When I was applying my white Zoya followed by Cosmetics Arts Fairy Dust, the song “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” kept going through my head.  My nails remind me of that fake snow that people use on their miniature towns. It’s all glittery and white.

What do you like to do when it snows out?

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 9 – Glittery Christmas December 20, 2011

“On the Ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Nine Ladies Dancing” That sounds pretty – but not terribly useful.

Something else that isn’t useful – but is pretty is a set of painted nails.  Today I bring you a glitter and accent nail style. On the 4 green fingers is Wet n’ Wild’s SaGreena the Teenage Witch and the accent nail is Zoya Kristi. SaGreena is – in my opinion a perfect clone of Holly. Some people have said Sagreena is much darker – but when I swatched both under all lighting in my house the two colors were identical and the amount of shimmer was the same too! (but you get what you pay for – I like the zoya formula better – it seems to peel off less.)  Then on top of all nails I added a medium thickness coat of Wet n’ Wild’s The Gold and The Beautiful.  It is super sheer (up to ~7 layers) so it just added a subtle gold shimmer to the top of the nails – to me this is a great holiday combination. As always Seche Vite finishes up the nails.

What is your favorite color combination for Christmas-time?
