12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 9 – Glittery Christmas December 20, 2011

“On the Ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Nine Ladies Dancing” That sounds pretty – but not terribly useful.

Something else that isn’t useful – but is pretty is a set of painted nails.  Today I bring you a glitter and accent nail style. On the 4 green fingers is Wet n’ Wild’s SaGreena the Teenage Witch and the accent nail is Zoya Kristi. SaGreena is – in my opinion a perfect clone of Holly. Some people have said Sagreena is much darker – but when I swatched both under all lighting in my house the two colors were identical and the amount of shimmer was the same too! (but you get what you pay for – I like the zoya formula better – it seems to peel off less.)  Then on top of all nails I added a medium thickness coat of Wet n’ Wild’s The Gold and The Beautiful.  It is super sheer (up to ~7 layers) so it just added a subtle gold shimmer to the top of the nails – to me this is a great holiday combination. As always Seche Vite finishes up the nails.

What is your favorite color combination for Christmas-time?

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 6 – Holly December 17, 2011

“On the Sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Six Geese a-laying.” Just when I thought these Christmas gifts were getting good I learn that I get 6 MORE birds – and not just regular birds but birds that are currently laying eggs for NEW birds.

Tired of birds like me? Well nothing says Christmas like Holly, and Zoya brings you a lovely sparkly green with that name.  It looks great alone or when paired with a lovely red sweater. Trust me, this color is not just for the holidays – but it is indeed perfect anyway.  Holly is covered with my standard Seche Vite

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 5 – Good tidings we bling December 16, 2011

“On the Fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Five Golden Rings.” Phew – finally something pretty to wear- one for each finger on one hand! I hope they are real gold though!

If that Bling isn’t enough for you – I know what is – Iin fact it is in the title of this Sephora by Opi polish “Good Tidings We Bling”. This is a glitter polish that has different sized hexagional red and green glitters suspended in a clear base.  It goes opaque in about six coats – so instead I put 3 coats over Sally’s All Wined up just so I didn’t have soooo much polish on my fingers.

The photo came out horrible, I know. I tried many times, but I just could not pick up all the glittery goodness – sorry! I promise it is way better in real life.

12 Days of Christmas -Nails – Day 4 – Kristi AND Holly December 15, 2011

“On the Fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…four calling birds.” Ok I get that they like birds – but we are up to 10 birds – that is a lot of bird droppings to clean up!

Something easier to clean up is nail polish :) My buddy Mr. Acetone works great for that.

I know guys love women getting it on with each other – and well, so do I, at least when it is Kristi and Holly!  That’s right the two Zoya’s look fabulous together. Kristi’s creamy red with Holly’s sparkely vibrant green makes quite the duo, and with using the new “half moon” style it is a really contemporary style that makes me think of those round glass orniments.

I applied Holly just over yesterday’s Kristi using the handy dandy 3 hole punch re-inforcers.

This is much more vibrant than yesterday’s but it is still really nice and not too out there.

What colors do you like to put in a half moon design together?

“On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me…Two turtle doves.” Well again with the birds, but at least these are prettier.

Lets spice up Shawn instead – like I mentioned yesterday I’d do some looks that have a simple change up to make them fresh looking. For Shawn I added some Wet ‘n Wild red glitter. I got the polish in a holiday set from Rite Aid so it doesn’t have a name, but any old red glitter in clear base polish would work. Again I covered it all up with some more Seche Vite.

Cute right? Its a little glitzy but not too much.

Now here is a special treat – it’s my house all gussied up for the holidays (just like my nails!)

“On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…A partirdge in a pear tree.” Hmmm, not sure what a partridge would do for me, its just a bird – I mean its sorta cute in a way – it looks like a pheasant. I do know what I would do with Zoya Shawn though!

I’d paint my nails for my first day of Christmas!!!

Here he is – in all his glory – risking making my husband upset since I’m wearing another man!

I added a coat of seche vite on top. Keep in mind I am awfully hard on my nails – so when I say this lasted a full day with no chipping or edge wear that is an amazing feat – it should last nearly a week on a normal person.

I thought this color would be festive and yet still subdued.

Most of my nails for this season will show the same polish two days in a row – the first day one way and then altered the next day to extend wear or add a simple change-up (like you will see tomorrow).

It was a great kickoff to the holiday season.

What did you do to kick off the holiday season?

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Cream Liner Review October 7, 2011

My favorite drug store brand remains Physicians Formula. I have been using today’s product for months now, but not talked about it too much. It is the Shimmer Strips custom eye enhancing gel cream liner for Green Eyes.

What is it, you ask? It is a set of 3 cream/gel eye liners that compliment your eye color – so you buy the set for the color your eyes are (green, blue, brown, hazel). My eyes (as you’ve probably noticed from the mascara comparisons) are green – so I bought the green set.

This particular set has three colors, matte green, matte purple, and black with green sparkles – very subtle sparkles. They come in three little pots that have caps that allow them to attach to each other – I consider them lego’s for adults.  Some people have siad they have trouble getting these apart, but truly, you just pull really hard and they come off – you won’t break anything (you can also try prying with a screwdriver or butter knife).

Unlike many stack-able potted products these each have their own caps instead of using the bottom of the next product as a cap, which allows you to throw just one in your purse or keep them all together – whichever you want.

Lancôme free gift with purchase review of “Pinks” palette September 21, 2011

As I discussed in my previous post, I took advantage of Macy’s “Free gift with Lancôme purchase” last month and got a load of awesome samples. Today I’ll share the “Pinks” palette.

This palette has four different colors, three of which are available in Lancôme’s
color design singles line*.  The four colors are (top left to bottom right) Designer*, Pink Pearls*,  Lava and Exhibition*.  The color design singles are each 0.042 oz, and in this palette each is 0.03 oz for a total of 0.12 oz – so these get pretty close to full size products.  As with all of the Lancôme products I’ve tried before, each of these is smooth and nicely pigmented.

I find it amusing that “Pink Pearls” is actually the only matte color in the entire set – you’d think that something with the pearl name would have a sheen. Anyway, that one is the color of cotton candy. Exhibition sounds like such a gaudy name but it is actually just a nice dusty rose shadow with a light sheen. Designer is supposedly a metallic green, but it just seems like a standard shimmer to me.  Finally, Lava is a dark pinkish brown that is a shimmer. This is my least favorite color in the set, but I still like it.

Butter London Haul! and swatch of Dosh! September 13, 2011

My two bridesmaids, Jamie and Nicole, threw me my bachelorette  party at Queen Mary Tea House. This tea house has tons of super cute trinkets like tiaras and giant rings and tea books. This time I noticed they started carrying Butter London nail lacquer. SCORE! I’d never seen it in stores before near me – but this place made sense since they promote things that relate to High Tea, and what relates more to High Tea than LONDON? Anyway, I’ve read nothing but rave reviews of these polishes from different bloggers and I decided I must check them out for myself. Funny enough another store that I went to later that day (Fireworks) also carried these.  Anyway, they had loads of colors, almost everything on the Butterlondon.com website. I kept myself to only 6 though I wanted all of them – but I decided to get ones that shouldn’t be doups for anything I have at home.
I picked up:

  • No More Waity, Katie (purple glitter) (Sold out online)
  • Dosh (green shimmer)
  • Scoundrel (light purple cream)
  • Lady Muck (baby blue Pearl)
  • Cheeky Chops (canary yellow cream)
  • Jaffa (orange/pink cream)

L’OREAL Wear Infinite 320 Greens Review August 5, 2011

Its Friday!!! Yay, as RB says “Fun Fun Fun Fun, Lookin forward to the weekend” ok enough with you-tube songs.

Today I bring you something from my stash that I had BEFORE I discovered Sephora – yes I know Sephora existed before I discovered it – ok bad joke.  Yes, back to my drugstore beauty products phase (from when I was a kid to ~6 months ago), I like the “match your eye color” stuff since I love my eyes, and I  like making them pop, and while I know the basics of a color wheel I am by no means an artist – so they are helpful. I picked out the “L’OREAL Wear Infinite Studio Secrets Professional Eye Shadow” in 320 Greens. It claims to be for Green/Hazel eyes. I know my pictures kinda stink but my eyes are GREEN and many companies like to clump that into Hazel with Green – but that’s far better than the ones that pretend Green Eyes don’t exist *thanks Smashbox*.

Ok, first, that name is far too long to write every time so I’ll call it 320 Greens. 320 Greens is a 4 color compact that contains 0.04 oz of each color, helpfully numbered to assist with those who are makeup challenged.  I don’t use this compact a lot, but it has made it into my purse a good 20 times, so you can see from the photo that while the case is still in one piece the “pretty” chrome detailing now looks ugly.  Why on earth would you put your product in a package that will look bad LONG before the product is used up. Anyway, this case is very small, small enough for a pocket – as you will see below with a quarter as a reference. These are smooth to the touch but not easy to get a lot of color from and they come with a sponge applicator. I can’t quite describe the finish – somewhere between matte and shimmer, like the back side of a piece of satin.
