Wella Shimmer Delight Shine Review October 12, 2012

Today I bring you the Wella Shimmer Delight Shine. I have a texture to my hair that makes it so that when my hair is clean it looks dry. I deep condition, I wash in cool water, I try everything and my hair always looks dull, even when I leave the salon. I have always longed to have the lustrous shiny hair that I see everywhere. When Total Beauty asked me if I wanted to try this, I jumped…I’ve tried everything so I was ready to try more.

And this works! I get my hair in the style that I want and then spray about 3 pumps from arms length away from my head and my hair looks glossy and beautiful. It doesn’t weight down my hair and it doesn’t look greasy. I don’t end up with oily hands, like with some solutions. This is the perfect 30 second method to boost my style. The only downside is that the next day my hair ends up fairly oily looking, not the natural glossy look of the previous day. I like to get 2-3 days out of my hair, and this gives me 1 styled day and one pony-tail day.  The positive aspects of this spray are so amazing that they far outweigh the frequent wash inconvenience.

I have added this to my personal beauty arsenal. I would highly recommend this to anyone who suffers from dry, dull looking hair.

Will I finish the sample? Yes

Would I buy this again? Yes!!!

MyGlam has been pretty fun lately with a good mixture of types of products.  They have also been mixing their bags up a bit. This month was a party-ready gold glitter bag. I was really nervous about all the glitter but none of it came off. I can totally see myself using it for a party where I fear that my stuff might get spilled on.

So what came inside this shiny shiny bag of goodness?

June Total Beauty Collection July 14, 2012

Today I bring you my first of the June boxes in the format I mentioned a few days ago – I still can’t believe I got an entire month behind! Anyway, this is the second of the Total Beauty Collections.Total Beauty Collection is different than the other sample subscriptions in that it is not really a subscription. You get notified that a new “Collection” is out the email tells you what brands are included. You then can click on the link and see more specific information on the products included. Then you can purchase it. If you don’t like it you don’t have to buy it. You will not be automatically billed for it. The down side is it can sell out and you don’t have any way of ensuring you get it.

So what was included in the second Collection?

C.O. Bigelow – Lavender and Peppermint Shampoo – Review July 4, 2012

Today I bring you the C.O. Bigelow – Lavender and Peppermint Shampoo that I received in my May GlossyBox.  Have you ever seen those “herbal” neck relaxer bean bags? This shampoo smells just like those with the lavendar and peppermint which is somewhat envigorating in the shower.

The shampoo seemed to leave my hair nice and shiny and managible.  I adored the old school look of the container but functionally it needed a squeeze or pump dispenser.

I still prefer my alterna products but this was definitely nice enough to use up.

Would I buy this again? Probably not

Will I finish the sample? I did, it was nice and lasted me most of a month.

Here’s the Breakdown:
Sample Size: 5.2 oz
Full Size: 5.2 oz
Full Size Price: $12.00
Sample Value: $12.00

Alterna Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist – Review June 7, 2012

Whew  – Two Alterna Bamboo products in 2 days! Luck you! This sample was included in the May Total Beauty Collection.

This mist is intended to provide shine as a finishing spray as well as help tame the frizz and flyaways. It also is supposed to help with color retention. Does it work? Yep. I had horrible bed head this morning from my evening shower and my flat iron was just not getting rid of that icky dryish look, I spritzed this all over and I got a lovely glossy shine. I went though with my hot iron again, and I got perfect silky and sleek (not oily)  hair.

The only problem with this product is that I keep touching my hair all day because it feels so nice!!!

Would I buy this product again? Yes, I plan to!

Will I finish the sample? Definitely!

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size:  0.85  oz
Full Size: 4.0 oz
Full Size Price: $22.00
Sample Value: $4.65

Alterna UV+ Color Fade Proof Fluide – Review June 6, 2012

Today I bring you the Alterna UV+ Color Fade Proof Fluide that I received in my May Beauty Bar Sample Society box.

I personally love Alterna’s Bamboo line, I use their “smooth” shampoo and conditioner and feel that it leaves my hair soft and undamaged, so I was thrilled to try another one of their products. This one is from their “Color Care UV+” line.  This particular product is intended to increase shine while protecting your hair from UVA and UVB rays – thus preventing sun based fading.

I used it and it does increase shine – unfortunately it doesn’t really help with my frizz/fly aways so I still need to use additional product.

Would I buy this product again? No, it doesn’t meet all my needs, I would rather have a product that does more than many products that only do one part – at least for my hair.

Will I finish the sample?  I’ll keep it around for sunny days that I’ll be out in the sun a bunch – to help protect my hair (and maybe even my scalp a tiny bit).

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size:  0.3 oz
Full Size:   2.5 oz
Full Size Price: $24.00
Sample Value: $2.88

amika Obliphica Nourishing Mask – Review May 15, 2012

Today I bring you amika Obliphica Nourishing Mask for hair from my April Birchbox.  I was not expecting to like this at all, I’ve been totally dissatisfied with the hair products I’ve gotten from Birchbox so far, but this one was, happily, different.

This thick cream smells light and fresh. I applied it to my freshly clean but still wet hair, waited about 10 minutes and rinsed it out with cool water.   For the first time in a long time I was able to get pretty loose curls all over my head. Most of the time my hair doesn’t act consistently across my head, this mask gave me the bounce and elasticity that my hair had been missing for ages.  I really liked it a lot.

Would I buy this again? Yes! Absolutely.

Will I finish the sample? Yes! I should get 2 more uses out of it.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sample Size  0.67 oz
Full Size  16.9 oz
Full Size Price $40.00
Sample Value $1.58

Oscar Blandi - Jasmine Oil Hair Serum – Review May 12, 2012

Today I bring you Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil Hair Serum from my April Beauty Bar Sample Society.  I received one of these samples awhile ago in a birchbox last year but I’m not sure what happened to it, I may have discarded it or something. Anyway, this thin serum is intended to make your hair shine, prevent unwanted frizz, and add protection.

Do you ever feel like with the claims that these  companies make, and then it not working for you that you don’t actually know what a phrase means? I see all these products that are anti-frizz, and yet my hair still sticks out in all directions refusing to be a uniform mass. If a balloon even threatens to go near my hair, the hair goes straight on end.  So, no, for my hair at least this does not reduce frizz.  It does add a little shine, but in order for my hair to look lovely and shiny it ends up taking a lot more than is recommended AND my hair feels greasy afterward.

All in all, this product does not work for me.  I am sure that there are people it does work for, but I’m not one of them.

Will I buy this product again? No, it didn’t work for me.

Will I finish this sample? No, it just didn’t work well enough for me to keep it around.

Here’s the break down:

Sample Size:  0.169 oz
Full Size:   1.6 oz
Full Size Price: $35.00
Sample Value: $3.69

Kérastase Elixir Ultime – Review April 7, 2012

Tags: , , ,

Today I bring you the Kérastase Elixir Ultime that I received in my March Teen Vogue Birchbox.  This is a hair oil that is intended to leave your hair shiny and manageable. It can be used as a leave in conditioner or it can be used before shampooing as a hair treatment.

I’ve tested it as a leave in conditioner for after my hair has been washed. I have tried applying a couple dots to slightly damp hair and also to fully dry hair. It does leave my hair more shiny, but not more manageable. I also don’t feel like it has any long lasting effects to improving my hair.

This is a nice product but I’m not overly Impressed with it.

Will I buy it again? Probably not, I just didn’t see the real benefit to it.

Will I finish the sample? I’ll still use it occasionally, but I will probably throw it out fairly soon.

Sample Size 0.16 oz
Full Size 4.22 oz
Full Size Price $54.00
Sample Value  $2.05
