May Beauty Army Kit – Wrap Up July 3, 2012

I’ve had a chance to use and review all of the products from my May kit and decide on how much I liked them. So now it is time to do my box wrap up.

In case you don’t remember, here is a summary of the Awesomeness level:

Box Awesomeness Level Review (AL)

  • 5 points for an item that surpasses everything else I’ve tried and becomes my #1 choice for what role it fulfills
  • 4 points for an item that becomes added to my permanent collection of cosmetics and I will repurchase
  • 3 points for an item that joins my “I might buy this again” list
  • 2 points for an item I finished or will finish the entire sample of but in the end decided not to re-purchase
  • 1 point for an item that I tried and immediately threw out/gave away
  • 0 points if the item was a duplicate of something from a previous bag/box/kit that only scored a 1 in that box – meaning I knew enough to not even bother with trying it.
  • Don’t forget that I subtract 1/2 point for samples that can only be used 2 or fewer times.

Opi – Kiss Me On My Tulips

Today I bring you the Opi (Kiss me on my Tulips – from the Holland collection) that I received in my May Glossy Box.

I want to start by saying I hate pink.  Yes, I am a girl, but I just never got into the color, so when I saw that I got a PINK nail polish (not pinkish orange, or pinkish yellow, or nearly red, or pinkish purple) I cringed. Then I did my dutiful blogger thing and tried it on.

Magic did occur. No, I don’t love pink all of a sudden or understand some women’s facination with the color, but I did immediately warm to this vivid color. It looked fantastic on my hands. As is typical with the OPI formula, it goes on smooth with no streaking. I could have gotten by with 1 thick coat but opted for two thinner coats. The wear lasted the typical 2 days on me (which is equivalent to about 6 for a normal person) with my standard overuse of my hands.

Will I buy this product again? Yes, Opi polishes are fabulous, and if I ran out of this one I might even buy PINK again!

Will I finish the sample? Yes – it will go into my collection immediately.

Here’s The Breakdown:

Sample Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size: 0.5 oz
Full Size Price: $8.50
Sample Value: $8.50

Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Toffee

This month has been absolutely insane.  I managed to find a new rental, pack all my belongings, remove all of that stuff from the old house, and get everything at least placed somewhere in the new house all in less than a month.  As a result, as I mentioned would happen, I did not have time to write to you all! I did, however, keep getting samples sent to me, so I have plenty to review.  Here is what you will be seeing in the next few days: A hybrid between my normal individual reviews, my first impressions and my box wrap up posts, all in one post per sample subscription.  I will wrap up the rest of May and use the aforementioned model for all of my June products  which should be reviewed in time to start my July products as I normally do – HOWEVER, if you like this new method let me know and I can switch to less frequent but bigger posts. Up to you, my friends. Thanks, as always, for reading!

Today I bring you the Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Toffee that I received in my May Glossy Box. This is, I suppose, the perfect example of a glossy nude lip however for me it was too glossy and NOT a good color.

The formula itself is ok – it is super high gloss and only minimally sticky. It stayed for a good couple hours before wearing all the way off.  If you apply a thin coat it highlights every crease and crevice in your lips, but if you apply it heavily then you don’t see those lines.

I’d give this a try in a different color before I say nay to it for certain, but as it is, I just couldn’t get there and like it. This is, I believe, the first lipgloss to go in the “throw” bin.

Would I buy the product again? Unlikely, unless there is a great sale to buy it cheap in a more complimentary color.

Will I finish the sample? No, this color made me look ill *sad*

 Here’s the breakdown:
Sample Size: 0.135 oz
Full Size: 0.135 oz
Full Size Price: $18.10
Sample Value: $18.10
